Here we have chemical solutions, and we look into chemical solutions, engineering solutions.

Inspiring the Future.

When Chemical Engineering Meets the Future

Sustainability

A wise investment on the next generation, or I should say many more generations to come.

Nature has changed a lot since humans steped into the industrial era. There are many significant inventions that have changed human life and what humans are capable of doing. In the discipline of chemical engineering, we have invented better ways to extract oil from the ground, innovated efficient combustion petroleum for engines (from agricultural tractors to airplanes), developed cost-effective coating materials for all industrial pipelines, even the spacecraft that landed on the moon. These are only some minor innovations that are still affecting our daily life. However, after the World War II, the world has stepped into the cold war drama which leads to the insane increase regards to the Carbon-Dioxide (CO2) per people on the Earth. The direct release gases like methane, Carbon-Dioxide, Sulfur-Dioxide etc. are directly or indirectly increasing the level of Green House Gas (GHG) in the atmosphere on Earth. This excessive green house gas level is getting worse, as more trees are chopped down in the rainforest, and other forest across the world. The balance of green house gas is out of control among these decades until 21st century, we decided to mildly control and shift our balance of green house gas back to where it was before (at the very least, the increasing trend of the GHG shall be stopped by the year of 2050, as an agreement of the Paris Agreement). This is a meaning agreement that introduces engineering related companies, researchers, insituitions to a brand new-era, a era that encourages sustainbility to leave a better world for the next, next, next … next generations. It seems to be too good to be true, but our actions, engineers’ actions, government actions are on the way to develop a better world for many more generations to come. We have built more and more solar power plants, wind farms, deploy carbon capture facilities, researching on sustainble materials to cut down the carbon footprint! Humans are also exploring the universe to locate another planet for living, researching on nuclear fusion to gain unlimited power, working on process optimization to avoid wastes from piling.

We are recycling waste, adapting the new rules, researching solutions. We are leaving a better world for many more generations to come, science and engineering will advance so that an ideal goal for now will be accessible in the near future.

Green Engineering

An effective method to minimize hazards relate to both the environment and the human.

Green Engineering is an important concept to any engineering discipline, especially in Chemical Engineering. We research, design all chemical processes by two approaches, either chemical reaction approaches or physics approaches. Both approaches need to evaluate their efficiency, process safety, hazardous materials. These valuable evaluations could be various that depends on who is considering the process, so the engineer would be the key responsible role to control hazards and risk while maintaining the process efficiency. One important thing in the green engineering is to consider the process towards both the human and the environment, a better approach would minimize those hazards and risks to both of them. It could be unreal, but it is always possible to address a lower risk for all of us and our nature.

Bio-based Engineering

Naturally existed chemicals have great potential to a low carbon foot print future. These naturally existed chemicals are usually explored their usage as bio-based chemicals that is natrually synthesis by either trees or animals.
